Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that he told US President Donald Trump about his desire to end the war. However, Ukraine should go to the end of the war in a position of strength, the president said in an interview with Bloomberg on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos.
In his opinion, the "cheapest" security guarantee for Ukraine would be to join NATO. But guarantees are also needed before joining any security alliance.
"I told him that Ukraine wants to end the war more than anyone else. We did not want to start it. We are ready to end it. But we have to be in a strong position — that's what I told President Trump. But I told him frankly, and maybe he meant it: you will see, I told him, Mr President, you will see that when everyone around you wants to end the war, you will see that Putin will not end it. He will not want to end it. That's why we need strength — peace through strength," he said.
Zelenskyy believes that Putin is sick with the idea of war and of not allowing Ukraine to live independently.
