On 23 January, the Russians attacked Ukraine with 92 Shahed-type strike UAVs and various types of imitation drones from the directions of: Millerovo, Orel, Kursk, Bryansk, Primorsko-Akhtarsk in the Russian Federation. Russian military also fired four Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles from the Voronezh Region at Zaporizhzhya.

As of 09.30 a.m., 57 Shahed attack UAVs and other types of drones were confirmed downed in Poltava, Sumy, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Mykolayiv, Kherson, Zaporizhzhya, and Dnipropetrovsk Regions. Another 27 Russian decoy drones were lost locally (without negative consequences). Three UAVs are still in the air, combat operations are ongoing.

The air attack was repelled by anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Air Force and Defence Forces.

Unfortunately, the Russia's ballistic missile attack on the city of Zaporizhzhya resulted in one dead and at least 45 wounded, as well as the destruction and damage to enterprises, apartment buildings and private houses. Special services are eliminating the consequences and providing assistance to the victims. Kharkiv Region was also affected by the downing of Russian UAVs.

  • In Zaporizhzhya, Russians destroyed one of the energy facilities, leaving more than 20,000 customers without electricity.
