Defence Minister Rustem Umerov said that in December the ministry transferred UAH 2.1bn directly to the Armed Forces combat units to purchase drones, the ministry's press service reports.
The minister said this made it possible to quickly meet the needs of the brigades and increase the diversification of centralised control.
‘We analysed this experience and decided to scale up the initiative. Today, the Cabinet of Ministers supported the proposal of the Ministry of Defence. From now on, UAH 2.5 billion will be distributed monthly among the brigades of the Armed Forces to purchase UAVs. The unit commanders will be able to use these funds to purchase the drones that are most effective for performing tasks at the front,’ the minister said.
He noted that this is another step towards creating the most flexible system for providing the military with everything they need to defend Ukraine.
- In 2025, 26.3% of the country's GDP, or UAH 2.23 trillion, will be spent on defence.
