The Security Service and the State Bureau of Investigation, with the assistance of the Minister of Defence and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, detained the former commander of the 155th Separate Mechanised Brigade of the Armed Forces, who allowed his subordinates to desert.

This was reported by the SBU press service.

According to the investigation, while holding the position of commander, the ex-commander did not inform law enforcement agencies about a significant number of facts of unauthorised desertions by personnel that occurred during the preparation of the unit in the European Union, as well as the performance of combat missions on the eastern front.

The SBU report does not name the detainee, but according to journalist Yuriy Butusov, it is the former commander of the 155th Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Anna Kyivska, Colonel Dmytro Ryumshyn.

"Currently, law enforcement officers are checking information on the existence of corruption schemes in the brigade during the selection of military personnel for training abroad," the agency said in a statement.

They are also checking information about possible "schemes" where soldiers could evade their duties for bribes.

A notice of suspicion is being prepared against the former commander of the 155th Separate Mechanised Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine under Part 4 of Article 426 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (inaction of military authorities committed under martial law).

The article provides for a sentence of up to 10 years in prison.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the crime and identify other persons who may be involved in the offences.
