Ukraine's reconstruction needs over the next decade are set to reach $524 billion.
This is according to a new World Bank report on the assessment of damages and needs (RDNA4) resulting from the large-scale Russian invasion, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said.
The new data exceeds the previous estimate by $38 billion. Such huge figures mean that the reconstruction must become a global project.
The government has already defined the basic principles of reconstruction. This is the principle of build back better. The principles are safety, energy efficiency, barrier-free and inclusive.
But the main principle is that the reconstruction must start now. It affects the quality of life of millions of people, the prospects for Ukrainians returning from abroad, and the creation of growth points that will drive our economy forward.
"I am grateful to the World Bank for understanding the urgency of recovery projects. In particular, the report already identifies 348 priority projects totalling $17 billion. Of these, we already have partial or full funding of $7 billion for 127 projects," the Prime Minister said. This data will be the basis for recovery planning for the near future.
