Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, 183 Ukrainian artists and 98 media professionals have lost their lives.
This was reported by the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications.
“The war has claimed the lives of 183 Ukrainian artists and 98 media professionals. This data not only reflects the scale of losses but also serves as a reminder of the tragic pages of our history. Just as in the 1920s and early 1930s, when the Stalinist regime destroyed generations of Ukrainian artists, today Russia is deliberately targeting Ukraine’s cultural elite,” the statement said.
During the full-scale invasion, seven foreign media workers who reported on events in Ukraine were killed.
“The systematic crimes against journalists and media committed by Russia pose a serious threat to freedom of speech and information security, undermining democratic values and human rights,” the ministry said.
- At least 112 journalists, both foreign and Ukrainian, have been held in Russian captivity since 2014.
