Naftogaz Group has received new energy equipment, financing from the Norwegian government, and a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to purchase gas. The company received confirmation of this support on the same day – 26 March, the press service reports.
“These decisions are the result of months of hard work by the Government, our team, and our international partners. Thanks to this support, we are starting preparations for the next winter, having already made significant progress that will help Ukraine get through it more confidently,” said Roman Chumak, CEO of Naftogaz Group.
- The Norwegian government, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), has provided 16 gas piston plants with a total capacity of over 150 MW. These will supply heat and electricity to more than 500,000 residents of Dnipropetrovsk Region and enhance the energy security of two major cities. “These plants will ensure a stable supply of energy even in the face of attacks on the power grid. We are grateful to our international partners for their support, which will help us get through the next heating season,” said Chumak. JSC Ukrgasvydobuvannya has also received equipment to boost natural gas production, which is critical for the country’s energy security.
- Additionally, the Norwegian government has allocated nearly €140 million in grant assistance to Naftogaz for purchasing natural gas. “Secure energy supply is important for Ukraine’s energy sustainability. There is an urgent need to increase funding for gas imports to provide electricity and heating for homes, businesses, and public institutions. Norway is making its contribution to meet this need,” said the Norwegian Prime Minister.
- The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has approved a loan of up to €270 million for Naftogaz of Ukraine. The funds will be used to purchase natural gas for the next heating season.
“These three decisions are the result of a large-scale team effort. The heating season is coming to an end, but there is no time to pause. Preparations for the next winter are already underway,” said Chumak.
