According to Hungarian Cabinet spokesman Zoltán Kovács, writing on the X, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has pledged to prevent the formation of a pro-Ukrainian government in Hungary. His statement was made during a parliamentary meeting.
This declaration came in response to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who earlier expressed hope that a “friendly government” might come to power in the neighbouring country.
Orbán stated that he would not allow “agents of Brussels” to take control — individuals who, in his words, “want to remove the national government, bring Ukraine into the EU, drag Hungary into a war, release migrants on us, abolish taxes for multinational companies, and suspend child protection laws”.
“There will never be a situation where Kyiv or Brussels will dictate to Hungarians how to dispose of their legitimate sovereignty,” the Prime Minister emphasised.
He also reiterated his oft-repeated claim that Hungary would face alleged “bankruptcy” if Ukraine joins the European Union.
- Orbán also cast a defiant vote against Ukraine’s accession to the EU in a consultative referendum.
