At this year’s Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, which belongs to category “A”, Ukraine was represented by a number of projects and premiere films. The Ukrainian Institute wrote about this on its Facebook page.

The Central Stage programme of the industry section, held in partnership with the Ukrainian Institute and film institutes of Central European countries, presented 14 feature film projects from eight countries. Among them were two Ukrainian films: In Vacuo by Yelizaveta Smith and Film About a Film by Ivan Tymchenko.

The project In Vacuo received a special award from the Eurimages fund. The jury awarded the film a cash prize of €20,000 for further development and co‑production.

“We are proud to award this Ukrainian feature debut, set in Odesa. The film explores the universal impact of loss and how absence shapes identities and communities, emphasising the importance of memory before it is too late.”

The main competition of the festival featured Dmytro Hreshko’s film Divia, which was one of the winners of the proMOTION 2025 programme.

Ukrainian documentary cinema was also widely represented in the Horizons programme, which featured screenings of Mstyslav Chernov’s 2000 Metres to Andriivka and Kateryna Hornostay’s Timestamp (winner of proMOTION 2025).
