On the night of 27 to 28 August, Russia attacked Kyiv once again. It was a combined attack using drones and various types of missiles, damaging more than 20 locations in different areas of Kyiv.
Among other significant damage, the British Council's cultural and educational institution in Kyiv was hit.
‘As a result of the night attack on Kyiv, our office has suffered significant damage and will remain closed to visitors until further notice. Despite possible delays in responding, we are continuing our work with Ukrainian partners in the fields of education and culture. You can contact us by email,’ they wrote on their Facebook page. The British side confirmed that all employees are safe and no one was injured.
The EU Delegation building was also damaged in the attack. European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos published photos of the damage and wrote: ‘I strongly condemn these brutal attacks, which are a clear sign that Russia rejects peace and chooses terror.’
The British Council is a UK-based international organisation engaged in cultural diplomacy, education and international relations. It was established in 1934 and is funded by the UK government, although it operates as an independent non-profit organisation.
