Ukraine will receive its own Earth observation satellite thanks to the Czech Republic.

According to the Czech Ministry of Transport's website, the satellite will be launched within a year and will collect data regardless of weather conditions or time of day.

The project is a concrete technological contribution by the Czech Republic to Ukraine's recovery and security. Currently, Ukraine is forced to use images obtained from abroad.

Czech Transport Minister Martin Kupka presented the initiative during Czech Space Week with the participation of President Petr Pavel.

‘Donating the satellite is not only a manifestation of our assistance to Ukraine, but also proof of the high level of the Czech space industry. The Czech Republic is showing that it is capable of creating and supplying high-tech solutions that have a real impact — in the field of security, infrastructure restoration or civil protection. We believe that this mission will help Ukraine strengthen its capabilities,’ Kupka said.

The Czech Republic is the first country to provide Ukraine with this form of assistance. Czech companies with experience in developing space technologies, particularly small satellites, will work on the creation of the satellite.

The device will be equipped with a combined system — SAR radar, optical sensors, a radiation detector and a radio frequency spectrum monitoring system. This will allow observation of the Earth's surface even at night and in adverse weather conditions.

The project is based on a memorandum of understanding between the Czech Ministry of Transport and the State Space Agency of Ukraine, signed in 2024.
