On 23 October, the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant emerged from its longest blackout caused by the occupation. Energy workers restored its power supply, according to Minister of Energy Svitlana Hrynchuk.
Energy workers have completed repairs to the 750 kV Dniprovska line, and repairs to the 330 kV Ferosplavna line are ongoing. The month-long power outage was caused by the actions of Russian troops.
"All this time, the safety of Europe's largest nuclear power plant was maintained solely by emergency diesel generators. This posed an unprecedented threat to nuclear and radiation safety not only in Ukraine but also across the entire European continent," said the head of the Ministry of Energy.
Since the start of the full-scale invasion, Ukrainian energy workers have restored the station's power lines 42 times. Hrynchuk stressed that the only way to ensure long-term nuclear safety is through complete demilitarisation, de-occupation of the Zaporizhzhya NPP and its return to the full legal control of the Ukrainian operator.
