The art project Habitus, dedicated to the interaction between artists and the role of creativity in shaping communities, has opened in Bruges, Belgium. The exhibition brings together the works of seven Ukrainian artists and explores forms of self-organisation that arise during periods of social change.
Oleh Tistol, Mykola Matsenko, Maryna Skuhareva, Andriy Zelinskyy, Dmytro Shevchenko, Vinny Reunov and Yana Bestrova are participating in the project.
The exhibition is presented in the Garemijn Hall of the Belfry of Bruges, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The event is part of Ukrainian Culture Week in Belgium.
During the opening ceremony, Yaroslav Melnyk, Ukraine’s ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium, noted the importance of supporting cultural dialogue between Ukraine and European countries, even in times of war. In his speech, he emphasised that the opportunity to present Ukrainian art abroad was made possible thanks to those who defend the country.
The author of the concept and curator of the project is Vitaly Adlermann, and the co-curator is Kateryna Ray. According to the curators, the exhibition space has been transformed into a “situational museum of relationships”, combining different artistic approaches and experiences, and the location itself has become a symbol of intercultural connection.
The project was implemented with the participation of Meancult Gallery and the support of partners.
