Ukraine and Germany have announced a large-scale Bilateral Cultural Season for 2027–2028. The initiative is enshrined in the Declaration on Strategic Partnership, which was presented on 14 April following the meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and German Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Berlin. The Ukrainian Institute reported this on its Facebook page.

During the joint press conference “Partners for a Secure Europe”, the parties emphasised that the strategic partnership between the two countries encompasses not only security and economic cooperation but also culture and social ties. These areas have been identified as key priorities of bilateral relations.

As part of the Season of Culture, a wide-ranging programme of events will be held in both countries. This will include exhibitions, concerts, interdisciplinary projects, professional exchanges, and new partnerships between cultural institutions.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Institute, the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, the Federal Foreign Office, and the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media will be involved in the preparation and implementation of the programme, together with other relevant Ukrainian and German institutions.
