On 17 April, Warsaw will host the opening of elsewhereland, an exhibition presenting contemporary art by Ukrainian artists dedicated to experiences of war, loss and life in conditions of instability. The exhibition will be shown at the Austrian Cultural Forum in Warsaw (Österreichisches Kulturforum Warschau), according to a Facebook post by the Ukrainian House in Warsaw.
The opening programme will include a meeting with artists Yana Kononova and Viktoriia Rosenzweig, as well as a DJ set by Zoia Mykhailova.
elsewhereland is an international art project bringing together works by ten contemporary Ukrainian artists, most of whom are currently living in exile in various European countries. In their works, they reflect on the experience of forced displacement, loss, and the search for new grounding amid war.
Among the exhibition participants are Yehor Antsyhin, Anatolii Belov, Mark Chehodaiev, Olha Horiunova, Liusia Ivanova, Yana Kononova, Kateryna Lysovenko, Anastasiia Mamai, Viktoriia Rosenzweig, and Maryna Shtanko.
The exhibition’s title refers to the idea of an “elsewhere” — physical, emotional and cultural. Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine has forced millions of people to leave their homes, becoming for artists not only a geographic displacement but also a profound experience of rupture, uncertainty and rethinking identity.
The project explores themes of migration, memory, trauma, mobility and belonging. The works presented reflect states of isolation and fragmentation, while also expressing inner strength, adaptability and the search for new forms of connection with the world.
Over 2026–2027, the project will travel to various countries, including through the network of Austrian cultural forums and diplomatic missions.
The exhibition is produced in cooperation with Office Ukraine / tranzit.at with the support of Austrian state institutions. The Ukrainian House Foundation is a partner of the project.
The exhibition will run in Warsaw until 22 May 2026.
