The Ukrainian Film Festival in Alberta (UFFA) is set to open in Canada, presenting a selection of contemporary films about Ukraine in the cities of Edmonton and Calgary. The festival will take place in two stages: 10–12 April in Calgary and 17–19 April in Edmonton. The programme includes films that have received international recognition and numerous awards. The Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies announced this on its Facebook page.

Over the course of two weekends, audiences will have the opportunity to see some of the finest examples of contemporary Ukrainian cinema, exploring themes of war, memory, identity and human resilience. The UFFA 2026 programme includes the following films: 2000 Metres to Andriyivka (2025), dir. Mstislav Chernov — a documentary about Ukrainian soldiers on the front line; Viktor (2024), dir. Olivier Sarbille — the story of a deaf boy from Kharkiv during the war; The Editorial Office (2024), dir. Roman Bondarchuk — a satirical drama about the media, corruption and the truth; My Dear Théo (2025), dir. Alisa Kovalenko — a personal frontline diary in the form of letters to a son; Two Sisters (2025), dir. Łukasz Karwowski — the story of two sisters travelling through war-torn Ukraine.

Selected screenings will be accompanied by discussions with filmmakers, including director Łukasz Karwowski.

The festival will serve as an important platform for promoting Ukrainian cinema abroad and for reflecting on Ukraine’s contemporary experience through film.
