Prime Minister Yuliya Svyrydenko has not yet agreed to take the post of Ukraine’s ambassador to the United States. LB was told this by sources in the diplomatic corps and the Office of the President.
At the same time, they do not rule out that her position could change. There have been no official announcements that the current prime minister has been offered the ambassadorial post in the United States.
On 12 July, the president reported on a meeting with Yuliya Svyrydenko and the need to renew the government.
“I am grateful to Yuliya for her clear, steady and effective work as Prime Minister, for years of productive work on Team Ukraine, and I proposed that she lead a new important area in relations with a key partner,” the president said.
According to LB, Ukraine’s ambassador to the United States, Olha Stefanishyna, will step down in the near future of her own accord. According to sources, she may face a new notice of suspicion in an old case involving illicit enrichment.
Today, the Verkhovna Rada will vote on Yuliya Svyrydenko’s resignation as prime minister. She has already submitted the relevant statement.
“This was preceded by a conversation with the President of Ukraine, who clearly outlined the need to renew the Cabinet of Ministers. I believe there are areas where we can strengthen our work. I hope you will support candidates for such areas, which will make it possible to implement education and social policy more effectively. In my conversation with the president, there was an understanding of the need to reset the government,” the head of government said.
Olha Stefanishyna began diplomatic service in the United States in August 2025. Before that, she served as deputy prime minister for European and Euro-Atlantic integration.
Yuliia Svyrydenko has experience working with American partners: she was the one who handled the negotiations and signing of the so-called minerals agreement.
