Since the start of the full-scale invasion, Russian strikes in Kyiv have damaged 219 municipal surface public transport vehicles, 44 metro infrastructure facilities and 84 vehicles belonging to private operators. The Municipal Transport Service and Kyivpastrans told LB.ua this in response to a request.
In 2022, 8 vehicles were damaged: 5 buses and 3 trolleybuses; in 2023, 8 trolleybuses were damaged; in 2024, 1 bus; in 2025, 63 vehicles: 56 trams, 4 buses and 3 trolleybuses; in 2026, 139 vehicles, including 69 buses and 70 trams. One trolleybus destroyed in 2022 cannot be restored.
The most extensive impact on transport infrastructure occurred during the attack on 2 July 2026, when 69 buses were damaged, and on 8 July this year, when seventy trams were damaged at a tram depot.
In 2026, the scale of damage rose significantly due to two Russian strikes.
On 2 June, shelling damaged 69 buses at once — their windscreens, side and rear windows, door and driver’s cab glass, mirrors, roof, bodywork, seats and other equipment were damaged. As of 30 July, 31 vehicles have been restored, with the remainder undergoing repairs.
Later, 70 trams at the Shevchenko Depot were hit (cars of types 71-414K, T5V641, K3R-N, K-1, K-1M8, T-3). Ten units have been restored, with the remainder under repair.
Kyivpastrans is carrying out all repair work in-house and at the company’s own expense.
