There are already four potential interceptors capable of shooting down Russian jet-powered “Shahed” drones.
This was reported by Ukraine’s Defence Minister Yevhenii Khmara while speaking to journalists.
“We are continuing to look for ways to counter jet-powered drones. There are already four potential interceptors that can shoot down jet-powered ‘Shaheds’,” he noted.
According to Khmara, field tests have already been conducted.
The immediate task is to “bring these solutions up to the required level as quickly as possible and scale up production to thousands of units”.
It is worth noting that from the night of 27 August, Russia switched to effectively continuous strikes in small groups of drones against the capital region. A significant share of the UAVs are jet-powered: such drones move several times faster than those with propeller engines and are harder to shoot down.
- Deputy Head of the Office of the President Pavlo Palisa said the Russians have significantly increased their use of jet-powered UAVs and will only increase their numbers, as they see how effective they are.
- Earlier, the Ministry of Defence reported that the arsenal of Ukraine’s Defence Forces had been reinforced with the first Ukrainian jet-powered drone interceptor, Alexa Spatium.
