Razom for Ukraine and the American Literary Translators Association (ALTA) are launching the Razom Ukrainian Translation Award.

The prize will support and recognise excellence in literary translation from Ukrainian and other languages of Ukraine into English. It will be awarded annually, starting in 2027. Submissions will open in mid-January 2027.

In addition, the organisations announced the launch of the Razom Mentorship for Decolonial Translation programme.

This programme is designed to support early-career translators working with literature from historically marginalised regions and languages. It will run annually, starting in 2027. Applications for the programme’s first year, which will focus on Ukrainian-language literature under the mentorship of Dominique Hoffman, open on 1 September 2026.

“Ukrainian voices have too often been perceived through a lens that distorted or diminished them,” said Anna Solovei, acting director of the Connect programme at Razom for Ukraine. “By focusing on decolonial approaches to translation and investing in both emerging and experienced translators, we hope to help create a space in which Ukrainian and other historically marginalised literatures can be heard in English more accurately and more compellingly.”

Razom for Ukraine is an American non-profit organisation founded in 2014. It supports Ukraine’s urgent needs while investing in long-term solutions in healthcare, civil society, advocacy and culture.

The American Literary Translators Association (ALTA) is a non-profit creative membership association that offers programmes and professional collaboration to the literary translation community: individual translators, academic institutions, publishers and other professionals in the field of literary translation.
