Polish fighter jets intercepted a Russian Il-20 reconnaissance aircraft over the Baltic Sea, about 30 km off the coast of Poland. No violation of the country’s airspace was recorded.
This was reported by Poland’s Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.
According to him, the incident occurred on Monday, 31 August, before midday.
“Russia once again tested our deterrence and air defence systems,” Kosiniak-Kamysz wrote.
- On 4 August, two Polish fighter jets intercepted a Russian Il-20M reconnaissance aircraft over the Baltic Sea. Polish fighter jets had also previously intercepted a Russian Il-20 over the Baltic Sea.
- At the time, the Russian aircraft was flying in international airspace without an approved flight plan and with its transponder switched off.
