Ukraine will open a national stand for the third time at the 44th Liber International Book Fair, which will run from 29 September to 1 October at the Fira Barcelona Gran Via exhibition centre, the Ukrainian Book Institute (UBI) reports.
Seventeen publishers will join the Ukrainian stand, including Rodovid, Folio, Literaturna Brama, Mountain Mill, Krokus, Bohdan, Antyvydavnytstvo, Chas Zmin Inform, The Old Lion Publishing House, Creative Publishing, the Junior Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Vilnyi Viter, Zhorzh, A-BA-BA-HA-LA-MA-HA, Ranok, Kalamar and Rada.
“Taking part in Liber is an opportunity for Ukrainian publishers to expand professional links with publishers and partners from Spain, as well as countries in South and Central America,” UBI notes.
This year, Ukraine’s national stand is being organised by the Ukrainian Book Institute with the support of Ukraine’s Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, the Embassy of Ukraine in the Kingdom of Spain, the Consulate General of Ukraine in Barcelona, Centro Cultural Ucraniano and the Ukrainian Publishers and Booksellers Association.
In addition, on 30 September, two professional events will take place as part of the fair’s programme, dedicated to Ukrainian literature, its presence in Spain and the prospects for developing international co-operation.
At 10:00, a panel discussion titled “The Fighting Word: The Revolutionary Literary Heritage of Spain and Ukraine” will begin, featuring translator Alina Petryk and philologist, translator and writer Yuliia Plokha. The discussion will be moderated by political scientist and journalist Abel Riu.
At 17:30, a round-table discussion titled “Ukrainian Books in Spain: Translations, Co-operation and New Horizons” will take place, with philologist and translator Oksana Holiak, artist and translator Andrii Antonovskyi, Maria Martin Herzog, a representative of the Spanish publishing house Barbara Fiore Editora, and others. The event will be moderated by Doctor of Education and writer Carles Torner .
Both discussions are being organised with the support of Centro Cultural Ucraniano.
