On the night of 12 September, an explosion occurred at a weapons depot near the village of Tsareva Livada in Bulgaria, after which a fire broke out. Preliminary reports indicate that no one was injured, Reuters writes.
Gabrovo Region Governor Kristina Sidorova said the fire had been contained within the warehouse base of EMCO.
According to preliminary information, the blaze started at a warehouse belonging to the arms manufacturer. The cause of the explosion has not yet been reported.
This is not the first such incident at EMCO sites this year. In August, a fire broke out at another company facility.
EMCO has also previously featured in a case involving explosions and the destruction of ammunition depots. In 2024, Bulgaria issued arrest warrants for six Russian citizens accused of involvement in the destruction of EMCO warehouses between 2011 and 2020.
The depots, among other things, stored ammunition intended for export to Ukraine and Georgia. Russia rejected the Bulgarian side’s allegations.
At present, there is no information about anyone being injured in the latest explosion. The circumstances of the incident are being established.
