Former UK prime minister Boris Johnson has called for Ukraine to be provided with the air-defence capabilities it needs and for frozen Russian funds to be released and transferred to Ukraine.
He said this on the social network X.
"I don’t know what twisted logic prompted Putin to blow up a Ukrainian locomotive standing on the Polish border this morning. Perhaps one thing can be said for sure: this is exactly the kind of chaotic and senseless attack Ukrainians endure every day — even on civilian railways. To date, Putin is responsible for the deaths of 1,700 Ukrzaliznytsia employees. They, and the passengers who use the trains every day, are true heroes," Johnson wrote.
He also urged that Ukraine be given the air-defence capabilities it needs and that frozen Russian funds be released.
"When will we finally provide them with the air-defence capabilities they need? Why don’t we unfreeze Putin’s funds and hand them over to Ukraine? More than €140 billion is held in an account at a Belgian bank, and around £10 billion in London. The United Kingdom could take the lead," Johnson stressed.
"The Ukrainians will win — that became clear after three days spent in their wonderful country. But we can bring this horrific war to an end much faster if we take the situation seriously and give them everything they need and deserve," he added.
