The head of the Specialised Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office said that the anti-corruption agencies have not announced and will not announce notices of suspicion. He said this at a briefing on 14 September in response to a question from an LB correspondent about whether there is enough evidence to issue a notice of suspicion to suspended Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko in the “Carthage” case.
Kravchenko noted that there is a general rule: if there is sufficient evidence to issue a notice of suspicion, then that suspicion is served. NABU Director Semen Kryvonos said that information circulating in the media claiming that a notice of suspicion was being prepared for Kravchenko as part of the special operation “Emperor” is not true.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and the obstruction of the criminal proceedings is intense. Answering a question about whether Kravchenko would be extradited if a notice of suspicion is issued, he said:
“We always act within the law, within the framework of criminal procedure.”
Commenting on Kravchenko’s trip abroad, Kryvonos said that the then Prosecutor General signed the travel order for himself, and NABU does not monitor these processes.
- In the “Carthage” case concerning a criminal organisation within the Prosecutor General’s Office, five people are suspects, including the head of one of the departments, Serhii Kropyva. According to the investigation materials, he and Kravchenko were in contact and travelled together to Madrid.
- On 14 September, Ruslan Kravchenko said he had signed a notice of suspicion for the NABU Director. He did so from abroad: Kravchenko left the country last night.
