Japanese company Terra Drone has acquired 50% of Ukrainian drone manufacturer Kurin Technologies for $3.5m. This is stated in a Terra Drone press release.
Terra Drone acquired the Ukrainian company through an intermediary — its European entity, Terra Defense Europe.
Kurin Technologies develops and supplies interceptor drones for use on the front line in Ukraine. The company manufactures, among other things, the KT-1 and KT-2 interceptors, designed to counter FPV, reconnaissance and other drones flying at low altitudes, including Russia’s Molniya drones.
KT-1 and KT-2 were developed with frontline operational experience in mind. According to Terra Drone, these drones have already successfully intercepted targets in real combat conditions. Their distinguishing features are said to be ease and speed of deployment, and the design has been adapted for mass production. The commercial launch of the interceptors took place in late April 2026.
At present, Kurin Technologies’ production capacity exceeds 1,000 drones per month. The company plans to increase output amid expected growth in demand in Ukraine and abroad.
Before investing in Kurin Technologies, Terra Drone focused mainly on systems to counter long-range drones. The addition of the Ukrainian company is expected to expand the Japanese group’s defence business into protection against small, low-flying drones directly on the front line.
Terra Drone plans to combine Kurin Technologies’ expertise in developing and deploying interceptors with its own AI-based autonomous control technologies, mass-production capabilities and international deployment experience. The company also said it intends to expand this line of business not only in Ukraine, but also in the markets of Europe, Japan and other countries.
Terra Drone is a Japanese technology company headquartered in Tokyo, founded in 2016. It develops and provides end-to-end drone-based solutions — from hardware and software to services for surveying, inspection and other industrial tasks. The company is also developing unmanned aircraft traffic management (UTM) systems and Advanced Air Mobility technologies.
In 2026, Terra Drone announced its entry into the defence technology market. The company is developing a counter-drone line of business and plans to use it to create drone protection systems. In particular, Terra Drone is already investing in Ukrainian developer Amazing Drones to develop serial production of interceptor drones.
