The Russian army continued its series of drone attacks on Kyiv on 28 September. Russia attacked the city overnight, in the morning and throughout the day.
As of 22:45, a UAV strike on a three-storey business centre building was recorded in Kyiv’s Sviatoshynskyi District.
As of 22:15, the body of another person killed was recovered from the building of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in central Kyiv, in Shevchenkivskyi District. Thus, the death toll has risen to two.
In Solomianskyi District, cars are on fire after a UAV crashed into the courtyard of a residential building. Emergency services are heading to the scene.
In Podilskyi District, a UAV is reported to have struck a non-residential building.
As of 21:10, another strike on a non-residential building was recorded in Obolonskyi District. A UAV is also reported to have struck a non-residential building in Solomianskyi District, Klitschko said.
As of 20:52, the total number of people injured in Russian attacks had risen to 24, including three children. One woman was killed. The victim was an employee of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, whose presidium building was struck by Russia at around 14:00.
Six people injured, including two children, are being treated in city hospitals.
As of 20:09, according to the Kyiv City Military Administration, debris fell in the courtyard of a residential building in Desnianskyi District. Preliminary reports indicate there was no damage or injuries.
At around 19:53, a strike on a non-residential building was reported in Obolonskyi District. At another location, a warehouse building caught fire.
At 18:43, part of a smouldering missile was found near residential buildings in a forested park area in Holosiivskyi District. Emergency services are heading to the scene.
According to the State Emergency Service, people were injured at the Dobrobut medical centre in Kyiv’s Holosiivskyi District as a result of a Russian attack.
The medical centre said seven people were injured in Russia’s second strike, six of them medical centre employees. All staff and visitors survived.
The attack damaged the upper floors housing the Dobrobut Academy, as well as the clinic premises on the lower floors. The blast wave shattered windows from the first to the third floors and damaged medical equipment.
The medical centre will remain closed for the next few days.
The strike also caused the roof of a four-storey residential building located near the impact site to catch fire. During reconnaissance, rescuers evacuated a resident from the building. The fire at the site of the strike was extinguished.
At 16:25, it was reported that a UAV had fallen in an open area between private residential buildings in Kyiv’s Solomianskyi District. Emergency services are heading to the scene.
After 13:00, Russia attacked the city centre and Darnytskyi District. Non-residential buildings caught fire. The building of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine was damaged. The historic building dates back to 1851. The Education Ministry building was also damaged.
“As of now, one person has been killed and six injured, including three children,” President Zelenskyy wrote.
Former National Security and Defence Council Secretary Volodymyr Horbulin was injured in the Russian strike on the National Academy of Sciences building. His personal assistant was killed.
“Unfortunately, there are people injured and killed. All emergency and relevant services are working at the scene. I ask residents not to approach the site and not to interfere with the work of the services,” the head of the Shevchenkivskyi District State Administration said following the strike on the centre of the capital.
The President said that a pharmaceutical company in the capital was also damaged.
“One of the buildings of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine was also damaged in the attack. No ministry employees were injured,” Minister Andriy Butenko said.
After 12:00, the city’s mayor reported falling debris in Obolonskyi District.
“An UAV has fallen in the grounds of a non-residential development in Obolonskyi District. Emergency services are heading to the scene,” he said.
A 15-year-old boy and a girl were treated at the scene, while another injured person, a 17-year-old girl, was taken to hospital, Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko said.
In a Facebook post, rescuers said that a non-residential building in Podilskyi District had been damaged by overnight and morning strikes. A fire broke out and the roof was damaged. Russia launched a second strike, damaging a neighbouring building. Three people were injured there.
In Kyiv’s Obolonskyi District, Russia attacked a petrol station. A fire broke out. In Shevchenkivskyi District, a UAV struck an office building.
“In Holosiivskyi District, a UAV struck a café near a petrol station. Emergency services are heading to the scene,” the mayor said.
A private house was also struck there. One person was injured.
In Darnytskyi District, a fire broke out in an open area after a drone fell.
Russia is attacking the city around the clock with jet-powered drones, which are much harder to shoot down than earlier versions of Shahed-type UAVs. Yesterday, Russia injured nine people in the Ukrainian capital, while one person was killed. Two more people were killed in the suburbs in a strike on the Stolichny market.
Russia has been using a new tactic of continuous drone attacks in small waves since 27 August.
