Former NSDC Secretary and First Vice-President of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Volodymyr Horbulin was injured as a result of a Russian strike on the National Academy of Sciences building in Kyiv. According to preliminary reports, his personal assistant Natalia was killed.
This was reported by BBC News Ukraine, citing two informed sources.
According to a BBC source, the strike hit premises one floor above Volodymyr Horbulin’s office. The scientist is already at home. He sustained minor injuries from shattered glass.

- In the afternoon of 28 September, a Russian drone hit the building of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in Kyiv’s Shevchenkivskyi district. A fire broke out after the strike. As of now, one person is known to have been killed and six injured, including three children.
Volodymyr Horbulin was Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council from 1996 to 1999. He is one of the authors of Ukraine’s National Security and Defence Concept.
From 5 August 2014 to 30 July 2018, Horbulin served as Director of the National Institute for Strategic Studies.
In 2019, Horbulin became head of the supervisory board of the newly established Ukrainian Institute for Security Studies.
In 2020, Volodymyr Horbulin became head of the supervisory board of Ukroboronprom.
In August 2021, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy awarded Horbulin the title Hero of Ukraine for his contribution to state-building and to strengthening national security and defence.
Horbulin currently works at the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, where he serves as First Vice-President.
