The European Union is trying to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to residents of occupied Oleshky in Kherson region and is preparing a new large-scale package of sanctions against Russia.
This was stated by the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, at a press conference after a meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council in the format of defence ministers, Ukrinform reports.
“Yes, we are preparing the most extensive list of new sanctions restrictions. But this situation also clearly shows what is happening to people in the occupied territories,” Kallas said.
She noted that the humanitarian situation in Oleshky demonstrates the consequences of the Russian occupation for civilians.
“When someone asks: ‘Why not just give up these territories?’, it sounds so easy. But in reality, it is about people who will suffer in these territories,” the EU representative stressed.
According to her, the situation in Oleshky should serve as a reminder that when discussing occupied territories, it is not only about land, but above all about the people who remain there.
“Of course, we are trying to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid and we are helping Ukraine defend itself and its people,” Kallas added.
- Using drones, the Defence Forces managed to deliver about 4,000 kilograms of food to 100 designated locations in Oleshky. According to information from the head of the Regional Military Administration, Prokudin, Russian troops are seizing humanitarian aid and detaining local residents who try to receive it.
