The Ukrainian government has switched to a maximum savings mode and has postponed all non-essential spending. At the same time, to secure international funding the country must fulfil the commitments it has undertaken.
Prime Minister of Ukraine Serhii Koretskyi reported this.
According to him, funding from international partners directly depends on Ukraine meeting its agreed commitments. They include two strands – government and legislative changes.
"It is critically important for us to receive funds from international partners. This funding directly depends on Ukraine fulfilling the commitments it has undertaken," Koretskyi said.
He said that at a government meeting they approved a further four decisions within these commitments. As a result, of the 42 planned government decisions, 17 have already been completed.
The government plans to fulfil the remaining commitments by 15 October. Koretskyi urged that work be accelerated as much as possible over the next two weeks and that every decision be carried through to completion.
"Any delay comes at a very high price. Our defence, the resilience of the state and our ability to withstand Russia depend on meeting these commitments," the Prime Minister stressed.
Koretskyi also thanked MPs for their work on the necessary draft laws and said the government was ready for further co-operation with parliament.
- The government is introducing strict austerity measures and setting priorities for state spending. First and foremost, it will fund defence, pensions and social benefits, as well as salaries for teachers, doctors and other public-sector employees.
