Ukraine and Norway are working to strengthen Ukraine’s air defence amid Russian air attacks. Kyiv, in particular, has requested ammunition for F-16 fighter jets and man-portable air defence systems.
This was reported by the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine.
Ukraine’s Defence Minister Yevhenii Khmara held a telephone conversation with his Norwegian counterpart Tore Sandvik. He briefed him on the consequences of Russian strikes on civilian sites in Ukrainian cities, including Kyiv.
“Ballistic missiles and jet-powered drones are the main challenges in protecting the skies. Ukraine is developing its own capabilities to counter these threats. There are already results in shooting down jet-powered UAVs. At the same time, our country is counting on continued support from partners,” Khmara stressed.
The head of the Ministry of Defence presented a list of Ukraine’s urgent needs to strengthen protection of its airspace. In particular, this includes ammunition for F-16s and MANPADS.
Yevhenii Khmara thanked Norway for its support for Ukraine. According to the Ministry of Defence, Norway allocates about 1.3% of its GDP each year to assist Ukraine, amounting to roughly $7 billion.
