A pilot Ukrzaliznytsya project, ‘UZ Will Get You There’, has been launched from 1 October for frontline sections of Sumy and Kharkiv Regions. It is a combined train-and-bus service, reported Mykola Kalashnyk, Minister for Recovery, Infrastructure and Transport.

If, due to the threat of an attack, a train is unable to reach Sumy and Lozova, Ukrzaliznytsia will arrange for passengers to be carried onwards by bus. Train and bus services will be coordinated: in the event of delays, they will wait for each other.

“Transfer tickets for the nearest dates on designated trains are already available in the Ukrzaliznytsia app. The availability and price of the full ticket do not change,” Kalashnyk said.

UZ monitoring centres will track the threat.

UZ’s ticket-purchase website said that onward travel by bus will operate in the event of a threat. In August, rail services to Lozova were suspended due to an enemy attack, and from October the direct connection between the capital and Sumy was suspended.

  • Russia is deliberately striking trains in different Regions. The threat is particularly acute for frontline cities. Due to forced evacuations, delays in services sometimes exceed 10 hours.
