The President has awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine to fallen MiG-29 fighter pilot Marat Mambetov.

This is stated in the relevant decree.

"For personal courage and heroism shown in defending Ukraine’s state sovereignty and territorial integrity, and for selfless service to the Ukrainian people, I hereby decree:

To award the title of Hero of Ukraine, with the conferment of the Order of the Gold Star, to MAMBETOV Marat Redvanovych — Major (posthumously)", the order says.

Flight commander of the 40th Tactical Aviation Brigade, the "Ghost of Kyiv", Captain Marat Mambetov was killed on 1 October 2026. While carrying out a combat mission, his aircraft was hit by an enemy missile. The pilot ejected but, sadly, did not survive.

Flying a MiG-29 fighter jet, Mambetov carried out missile and bomb strikes against Russian occupying forces on one sector of the front.
