An FSB agent who, on the orders of the Russian security service, was preparing to murder a Ukrainian serviceman in Zaporizhzhya has been sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
This was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine.
The case concerns a sergeant in an intelligence company of the Armed Forces of Ukraine’s Air Assault Forces who, after taking part in fighting on the southern front, was on rotation. The serviceman rented a flat from a man recruited by Russian special services.
According to the case materials, the agent was to plant an improvised explosive device in the home. He was then supposed to inform his FSB handler that the attack was ready so that Russian operatives could detonate the explosive remotely while the serviceman was in the flat.
The Security Service of Ukraine detained the man in November 2025 in Zaporizhzhya when he purchased components to make the explosive device.
The investigation established that the FSB assignment was carried out by an occupational safety engineer at a local medical facility. He was put in touch with the Russian security service by a former colleague who is in occupied Melitopol and is collaborating with Russia.
At first, the agent gathered information for the Russians on the geolocations of operational energy facilities in Zaporizhzhya. The data was to be used to prepare new missile, air and drone attacks.
Later, he informed his handler about his tenant, a serviceman, and received an order to eliminate him. To assemble the explosive, the traitor bought the necessary improvised materials and was to receive from Russian special services the coordinates of a cache containing the explosive substance.
During searches, components for an improvised bomb, a smartphone and computer equipment containing evidence of his criminal activity were seized from the man.
The court found the agent guilty under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — high treason committed under martial law. He was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The comprehensive measures were carried out by officers of the Security Service of Ukraine in Zaporizhzhya Region under the procedural supervision of the regional prosecutor’s office.
