The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has detained a Kyiv resident who filmed the locations of Ukraine’s air defence and shared the video on Telegram.
According to the investigation, the man filmed Defence Forces positions through the windscreen of his own car. He sent the recording to a blogger under sanctions who previously worked for a TV channel linked to Viktor Medvedchuk and is now outside territory controlled by Ukraine.
An expert examination initiated by the SBU confirmed that the public dissemination of restricted information about the Defence Forces harmed Ukraine’s national security.
The detainee has been served with a notice of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 114-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — unauthorised dissemination of information about the location of the Armed Forces of Ukraine enabling their identification on the ground, committed under martial law.
The man faces up to eight years in prison.
The operation was carried out under the procedural supervision of the Kyiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
The SBU once again urged citizens not to film or share photos and videos of enemy attacks, and in particular not to publish recordings of the combat work of Ukraine’s air defence or strikes on military facilities and critical infrastructure.
