The European Union is preparing its largest sanctions package against Russia since the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. EU ambassadors have already agreed a preliminary deal.
This was stated by Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhiy Tykhyy during a briefing.
According to him, the new package предусматривает sanctions against more than 1,500 individuals and companies. Among them are 743 individuals and 826 legal entities.
In particular, Russia’s military-industrial complex has been targeted by the restrictions. The sanctions list is also proposed to include 77 State Duma deputies elected from Ukraine’s occupied territories.
Separately, the EU plans to extend sanctions against those involved in Russia’s use of chemical weapons. The restrictions will apply to 31 individuals and six legal entities.
Tykhyi noted that the EU plans to give final approval to the new sanctions package next week.
- The introduction of sanctions against Russia was previously announced by Kaja Kallas. Once the formal procedure in the Council of the EU is completed and the relevant acts are published in the Official Journal of the EU, the new sanctions will provide for the freezing of assets in the EU and a ban on making funds or economic resources available to sanctioned individuals and companies. Individuals are also subject to an entry ban to the EU or transit through its territory.
