Ukraine has evacuated a teenager from temporarily occupied territory after the Russians detained him over his pro-Ukrainian stance and suspected him of “terrorism”.
The Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets, reported this.
“We evacuated a teenager from the temporarily occupied territories whom the Russians detained because of his pro-Ukrainian stance, suspecting him of ‘terrorism’,” the ombudsman said.
According to him, for Ukrainians who remain in the temporarily occupied territories, leaving is often extremely difficult. Therefore, since 2025, as part of negotiations with the Russian side, Ukraine has opened a channel for citizens to return via the border crossing with Belarus in Volyn.
Particular attention is paid to people with limited mobility and those who are seriously ill. The International Committee of the Red Cross helps with the technical support for such evacuations.
Since this channel was opened, Ukraine has been able to evacuate more than a thousand of its citizens from temporarily occupied territories, Lubinets noted.
- In August and September, 41 Ukrainians returned from temporarily occupied territories via Volyn. Among them were four children and five teenagers.
