Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal has criticised agreements to supply Russian fuel to global markets and urged the West to increase support for Ukraine so it can destroy Russian oil refineries.
He wrote about this on Facebook.
Michal called deals with dictators a “road to hell”. He noted that Russia uses money from gas and fuel sales to kill innocent people, and that the expected supplies may not happen at all.
The Estonian prime minister stressed that the agreements run counter to the West’s long-standing policy aimed at reducing Vladimir Putin’s income from energy resources.
“The United States has so far been persuading its allies to give up Russian fuel, and so have we. The long-term policy of depriving Russia of money is the right one and must be continued,” the head of the Estonian government wrote.
Michal also proposed discussing an increase in financial support for Ukraine.
“Next week in Estonia and at the European Council, it is worth discussing whether we can quickly invest more in Ukraine so that they blow up Russian oil refineries,” the prime minister explained.
- Earlier, US President Donald Trump announced an agreement with Vladimir Putin on supplying Russian diesel fuel to the American and global markets. According to Trump, Russia is to deliver more than 300,000 tonnes of fuel immediately, another 500,000 tonnes in November, and one million tonnes after that. He later expects additional deliveries of a further three million tonnes of diesel.
- The US Department of the Treasury issued a general licence temporarily allowing transactions involving the sale, delivery and import of diesel fuel of Russian origin until 7 April 2027. Trump said he expects diesel prices in the US and worldwide to fall quickly.
