The administration of US President Donald Trump is threatening to halt sales of American weapons to Ukraine, demanding an end to strikes by the Defence Forces on Russia’s energy infrastructure.

The Financial Times reports this, citing European officials who received calls from US officials on Saturday and Sunday or were briefed on them.

The White House declined to confirm or comment on the calls.

According to FT sources, US representatives threatened to stop intelligence-sharing with Ukraine and to block the PURL mechanism — a NATO initiative under which European countries and Canada fund the purchase of US-made equipment for Ukraine

“They’re calling Kyiv... they’re calling everyone [in Europe],” said an official who was phoned by a representative of the US defence department.

Among those US representatives spoke with was Pavlo Palisa, deputy head of the Office of the President of Ukraine.

As a reminder, today US President Donald Trump announced in a post on Truth Social that Ukraine and Russia had reached an agreement to stop attacking each other’s energy infrastructure.

“In the war between Russia and Ukraine, an ENERGY CEASEFIRE takes effect immediately. Both sides have agreed. Do not violate it!” he wrote.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Russia attacked CHP-5 in Kharkiv, despite the “energy truce” announced by US President Donald Trump.

He also wrote on social media that Ukraine is ready to stop strikes on Russian oil refineries if Russia stops attacking Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

“Ukraine will be ready to stop strikes on Russian refineries if Russia stops striking our energy infrastructure. Any de-escalation steps must be mutual and come with genuine guarantees,” the head of state stressed.

According to Zelenskyy, in just one week Russian forces launched about 1,450 guided aerial bombs, 75 missiles of various types and more than 1,640 attack drones at Ukraine. About 60% of the drones were jet-powered.
