Ukraine and Moldova discussed preparations for the winter period, natural gas supplies and the possibility of importing additional volumes of electricity.

This was reported by Ukraine’s Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal following a meeting with Moldova’s Prime Minister, Vasile Tofan, during a working visit.

One of the key topics of the talks was the readiness of both countries’ energy systems for winter. The sides discussed gas transportation via a joint gas corridor and the possibility of increasing electricity imports. They are also preparing a bilateral document that will set out further areas of co-operation in the energy sector.

In addition, Ukraine and Moldova co-ordinated joint steps to resolve the problematic situation on the Dniester River.

Separate attention was given to fuel transit through Moldova’s territory. This concerns reducing queues of road tankers at the border and speeding up fuel deliveries to Ukraine.

The sides also discussed simplifying procedures at the Ukrainian–Moldovan border. In particular, this included introducing joint controls at border crossing points and holding bilateral consultations on how to organise them.

According to Denys Shmyhal, Ukraine and Moldova continue to strengthen energy security and develop co-operation between the two countries.
