In Ukraine, nearly 100 companies have joined an experimental private air defence project. The groups that have been formed have already destroyed more than 60 aerial targets.
This was reUkraine’s Ministry of Defence.
Overall, around 50 air defence groups have been created, operating under the command of the relevant Ukrainian Air Force commands. Groups from six companies are already carrying out combat missions, while others are undergoing training or completing their formation.
The main means of engagement within the project have been interceptor drones and automated turrets fitted with heavy machine guns.
Companies purchase some types of weapons with their own funds. They can also submit a request to the Ukrainian Air Force for the temporary provision of weapons from the stockpiles of military units.
The project envisages involving companies in strengthening the protection of Ukraine’s airspace.
- Private air defence is a component of Ukraine’s multi-layered airspace protection system. Private air defence groups do not operate independently; they are part of the overall system under the control of the Air Force’s Air Command.
