The court has ordered a preventive measure of detention with the right to post bail for the chief inspector of the Kolomyia customs post of the Ivano-Frankivsk Customs.
The man is suspected of hitting a pedestrian in Horodenka and leaving the victim in danger, the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office reported.
Law enforcement officers established that the 31-year-old figure in the crash is the son of a prosecutor from the Horodenka department of the Kolomyia District Prosecutor’s Office.
The customs officer has been served with a notice of suspicion for violating road safety rules resulting in grievous bodily harm, and for leaving a person in danger. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
- The Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office previously reported that the crash occurred on 11 October. The suspect exceeded the speed limit and hit a 25-year-old local resident. At the time, the man was walking along the edge of the carriageway in the same direction as the car. As a result of the collision, the victim sustained grievous injuries: a closed traumatic brain injury and open fractures of both femurs. He was taken to intensive care and is in a coma.
- The person responsible fled the scene and, as the prosecutor’s office stated, hid the car in a garage, then went to work the next day as if nothing had happened.
- The State Customs Service later said it had initiated the process of dismissing the suspect from the customs authorities.
