The man suspected of carrying out a fatal gun attack near Paris has been transferred from custody to psychiatric supervision.
This is reported by the BBC, citing the National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office (PNAT).
On Friday, one person was killed and five others were injured when the attacker opened fire from his car — first in the town of Trappes and then in neighbouring La Verrière.
It appears the attacker’s targets were “people of migrant background”.
French media report that the suspect — 39-year-old Kevin T. — will remain under supervision until it is determined whether his mental state allows further questioning. The procedure, however, must not take more than 48 hours.
President Emmanuel Macron called the attack a “racist terrorist act”, adding that people were targeted because of the colour of their skin or their religion.
Prosecutors also said traces of cannabis and cocaine were found in the suspect’s system.
French newspaper Le Monde and news agency AFP, citing a source close to the investigation, report that a Bible, a Quran and a copy of Adolf Hitler’s book “Mein Kampf” were found at his home.
