Ukraine has been waiting for a month for US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth to sign the decision on supplying missiles for the Patriot and NASAMS air defence systems. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has instructed officials to raise the issue with Washington again, he said following a conference call on 26 October.
Talks with other countries are also continuing. Ukraine is working with Europe and other partners that have stocks of PAC-2 and PAC-3 missiles.
Zelenskyy said the defence minister, the commander-in-chief and the foreign minister reported on the situation with supplies of interceptors for air defence systems. The head of government reported on work to restore the energy sector after Russian strikes.
Preparations for a new meeting of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group were discussed separately.
“We also discussed preparations for the Ramstein meeting in November. It is important to speed up the implementation of decisions that have been on the table for some time. Every support package is an opportunity to protect people’s lives. Thank you to everyone who is providing real support and, in particular, helping to accelerate these vital deliveries,” the head of state commented.
- Russia is exploiting a shortage of interceptor missiles capable of shooting down ballistic missiles and is attacking Kyiv’s energy infrastructure and that of other regions with this type of missile. Earlier, Zelenskyy said that this year the US is selling Ukraine only 12 missiles a month.
