From 24 October, Ukraine has introduced the automatic lifting of freezes on debtors’ accounts after a debt has been paid. This was announced on Facebook by Deputy Justice Minister Andrii Haichenko.
According to him, as of Monday morning the number of automatic operations carried out without the involvement of an enforcement officer had already reached 2,656. From now on, under the conditions set out by law, if a debtor has fully paid a debt in proceedings of up to 10 minimum wages (UAH 86,470 at present), the freeze on their assets and accounts is lifted automatically.
“The new rules also strengthen the protection of property rights: the value threshold for a person’s only home that cannot be subject to enforcement has been raised from 20 to 50 minimum wages,” he commented.
Haichenko said the Ministry of Justice, the Cabinet of Ministers and the Verkhovna Rada had been working on the changes for several years.
