Russia is systematically attacking bridges in Ukraine across rivers in an effort to disrupt logistics. Kyiv, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia and Kharkiv have already been hit by such strikes.

The state plans to build alternative bridge crossings, Infrastructure and Reconstruction Minister Mykola Kalashnyk said during the government question time on 30 October. In total, 21 bridge crossings are planned for implementation.

“Work in Kyiv has already started. The first bridges will be operational at the beginning of the year,” he announced.

These projects will be delivered by the state.

In Kyiv, the Russians have repeatedly struck the Southern Bridge. After the ballistic attack on 27 October, traffic on it was completely halted for three days. Today, passenger cars were allowed through in one lane in the direction from the left bank to the right bank.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko noted that no pontoon crossing can fully replace bridges from the right bank to the left bank, but the city is not ruling out options for building them.
