Ukraine plans to expand its long-range strike capabilities against Russian territory and increase the number of units carrying them out.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said so following a report on “deep strikes” in September and October.
According to the head of state, Russian facilities are currently within range of Ukrainian long-range strikes across an area stretching from Yamal to Western Siberia. Ukraine is working to ensure its drones and missiles can reach even more distant parts of Russia.
“I am grateful to all our warriors for their accuracy and for the regular, high-quality execution of Ukraine’s long-range sanctions. For every Russian strike on our cities and communities, there is always our entirely just response,” Zelenskyy noted.
The President said that key directions for the further use of Ukraine’s long-range weapons had been identified. They also plan to scale up deep-strike units based on the capabilities of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), including the Alpha Special Operations Centre, intelligence agencies and other components of Ukraine’s Defence Forces.
Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine’s long-range capability is one of the guarantees of preserving the country’s independence during the war and must become a long-term security guarantee after it ends. He also said he had spoken with manufacturers of the relevant weapons.
- Ukraine paused attacks on Russian oil refineries for three days after the US President announced an energy truce. However, Russia did not stop its strikes and, soon after the declared ceasefire, launched a massive missile attack on Ukraine’s energy sector. After that, President Zelenskyy said the restrictions on strikes were no longer in force.
