The US Department of Commerce has allowed Boeing to resume work with Belarus’s national airline Belavia.
The statement was made by Belavia CEO Ihor Cherhinets, according to BELTA.
Cherhinets said the decision will enable Belavia to receive the necessary spare parts, components and software for its fleet directly. In addition, the company will be able to hold talks on purchasing new aircraft directly from the US manufacturer.
Earlier, the relevant authorisation was issued by the US Department of the Treasury, creating the technical possibility for direct cooperation. Last year, the US government also lifted all political sanctions against the Belarusian airline. Belavia’s head stressed that these decisions were taken following talks between Belarus’s leadership and a United States delegation.
- In addition, the United States has already partially lifted its own restrictions on the Belarusian Potash Company.
