A widespread power outage hit Russia’s Kaliningrad and several towns across the region overnight from 30 to 31 October. The disruption was caused by the activation of emergency protection systems at the Kaliningrad CHP-2 power plant.

Russian media reported this.

Residents in several districts of Kaliningrad and other settlements in the region were left without electricity. The exact number of consumers affected by the blackout was not disclosed. Local residents also complained of disruptions to mobile internet.

The governor’s press secretary, Mariam Bashkirova, said that emergency protection systems at Kaliningrad CHP-2 had activated, shutting down part of the equipment.

Kaliningrad Region is a Russian exclave between Poland and Lithuania, separated from Russia’s main territory.
