US President Donald Trump has said the American military has “one or two targets” left to “deal with” in Iran. According to him, the United States has already inflicted significant damage on Iran’s armed forces and nuclear programme.
This is reported by CBS News.
On Saturday, 31 October, Donald Trump told journalists at his residence in Florida that the US could destroy the remaining targets in a short time.
“We destroyed their nuclear programme. We still have to deal with, I would say, one or two facilities, but we can do it in 10 minutes,” he said.
Among the targets, Trump mentioned Pickaxe Mountain, where an underground nuclear complex is believed to be located.
“You can probably look at Pickaxe Mountain, and that needs to be dealt with. We can do all of this very quickly,” the US president added.
Iranian authorities deny that any nuclear work is being carried out at the site.
Trump also said talks with Iran on ending the war are going “not badly”, but added that Tehran cannot be fully trusted.
He said the US is not rushing into new offensive action because it has already largely destroyed the country’s military and nuclear capabilities.
Earlier, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Trump has not yet made a decision on new strikes against Iran. At the same time, Washington, he said, is ready to consider a diplomatic settlement.
Qatar is also trying to broker the resumption of direct talks between the US and Iran to prevent a new military escalation after the midterm elections in the United States. Talks in Tehran on 30 October lasted more than 12 hours.
